On Work
Life is treating me well in this regard. I've gotten a promotion as well as a bonus this past week and it definitely was well deserved
My other job has been keeping me busy over numerous weekends in evenings. The house has finally been renovated with a new heating system as well as paint and new windows. Three floors with a line of renters already in store. The only thing that is hurting my wallet these days is the gas bill which I just received last night. Soon I won't have to worry about that and will be making it back in spades.
I have said that I find it difficult to work with my brother in real estate. It's great to put our funds together to purchase real estate, but when the planning and execution begin, I find it better to work on my own. I like to work at a realistic pace and am not afraid to spend a bit to save on time. However, my brother is gung ho and likes to take matters into his own hands. I do understand that he's able to do these things on his own but much time and money is wasted on doing things yourself. Because of his seniority, I was thrown into two weeks of hellish work in which I'd be managing my overtime as well as working at the house on the weekends. After that, we hired some mexicans do the rest. (For serious!) It's been a pretty easy ride since then of just managing and keeping tabs on the funds we set aside.
Because of my distaste for those two weeks, I wanted to start my next project with my own money. However, we saw an opportunity too great to pass up as a house next to mine was foreclosed. We were able to get it before the auction and we were able to make a competitive bid. The great part about this is that we're not going into this blind. We know the house since it's so close to ours and we're able to go inspect it as many foreclosed houses will not allow you to look inside until you've bought it. Right now we've sent out some inspectors to check it and make sure it's up to proper standards but I'd say we were much more successful with this house than the other. Despite the fact that it's only two family, it has its own parking lot as well as a back yard. Moreover, the place doesn't look too shabby although the heating system may need to be updated much like the last house.
Once again, I'm poor, but I'll still find a way to put my goal back on track and find a place to live near Boston.
On a side note, check this out. I wrote in Nov 2007 that it would be a good idea for Vietnam to launch a satellite and I had a dream about it.
